From Classrooms to Consulting: A Psychologist’s Journey Across Education and Industry

When I first began as a public-school teacher and counselor, I had no idea my career would take me from classrooms to universities to consulting with organizations across industries. Each step taught me valuable lessons that still resonate today.

Teaching in public schools revealed the importance of patience and adaptability. No two students—or people—are ever the same. Later, as a faculty member at universities like Colgate, Bradley, and the University of Georgia, I realized how vital mentorship is. Students don’t just remember lectures; they remember the encouragement that helped them grow.

As Dean of the College of Education at the University of South Alabama, I saw how leadership could shape not just individuals but entire institutions. Decisions made at the top ripple down to faculty, staff, and ultimately, the students whose lives are being prepared for the future.

Finally, my consulting work showed me the universality of human behavior. Whether in government, health care, or industry, the same principles apply: people want to feel valued, respected, and supported.

This journey from classrooms to consulting has been more than a career—it’s been a lifelong study of people, growth, and the pursuit of positive change.
